When a job application if the application can communicate with the employer?

I am currently working but I want a different job. One questions on a job application is whether they can communicate with my current employer. I am not sure how to answer this question. I'd say it's fine to contact my current employer, but I wonder what my boss thinks of me if I want to leave another job. I try just get better but I just wonder if this puts me in danger of losing my current job. When the question asked can they contact my current employer I should say yes or no?

Does your employer know you're unhappy there? Does your employer know that you are looking for another job? The previous answer is correct in that they may see that as a reason to reduce your professional responsibilities, but in many cases your employer will not care. It depends on the area. Also, it seems always better if you can say yes to this question because it shows that your potential employer that you have nothing to hide.
