It may not be as easy as it sounds for a Schengen visa. Here are 8 tips to help you through the process of visa application.

1. You can apply for a Schengen visa in the UK if you hold one of the following categories of visas for the United Kingdom: spouse visa, unmarried partner visa (must be valid for at least a year), ancestral visa, working visa holiday (it is normally valid for 2 years), level 1 (HSMP) Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 (student visa), work permit (valid for 2 to 4 years), Limited a residence permit in the UK, leave to remain indefinitely in the UK (ILR). If you come to the UK with a visitor's visa (which is normally valid for 6 months), you must apply for a Schengen visa in your home COUNTRY.

2. Before you book your trip make sure your visa for the UK is valid for at least 3 months after you're return trip from a Schengen country.

3. For most of the Schengen visa, you can apply in 3 months before the date of your trip. It is advisable to apply at least two weeks before your trip, but for some nationalities, it can take 3 to 4 weeks to process visa applications.

4. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the expiration date the visa, and it must contain two blank pages for visas. To obtain a multiple entry visa in your passport must be valid for at least a year or more after the date your trip ends.

5. If your passport was issued 10 years ago, you must obtain a new passport for an application Schengen visa. If your passport was issued within a year, provide your old passport with the current.

6. For most Schengen visa, you can request only after the United Kingdom for at least a month, but if you need to obtain a Schengen visa for Spain – You must wait 6 months before you make your first application.

7. Appointment with the consulate or a reporting center visa application in advance. During the summer time or before the holidays, it can come at a time waiting months for an appointment available.

8. Correct documentation is the key to a successful visa application. You must bring your passport (s) with valid visa for the United Kingdom stamped inside the passport photos, visa application form, letter of employment (or another form of confirmation of employment) pay slips, bank statements, hotel confirmation, flight confirmation, and travel insurance. If you're on a dependent visa, make sure you take your passport and marriage certificate with you spouse.
