There are many different career paths of an army officer in the National Guard can follow.
Each state is different. Some States are primarily combat arms, while other states are combat support or service support in combat-oriented.
If you want a successful career in the National Guard of the Army, you must develop a game plan.
Here are some tips you can follow to help you advance your career.
1. Your complete military education, quickly, a company grade officer, complete your schools, such as Basic Officer Leadership Course and Captain's Career Course quickly. Try to finish your CCC as a first lieutenant or junior high captain.
2. Get an order of business: As a junior to mid-captain, to find a headquarters company. Spend 18-30 months in command. Learning new things. Challenge.
3. After command: For most leaders, that's about when they decide if they want to stay in the National Guard or Army to resign. If you decide to resign, consider transferring to the Reserve Inactive Ready (TRI) in case you change your mind at a later date.
If you decide to stay, you must determine which path career to follow. Sit with your battalion S1 and Watch état's Roster Officer Manning. Know how many positions (SHIFT +) are available for someone with your branch.
For example, if you're an infantry officer and there are tons of posts infantry officer, You can continue following this career path if you wish. Instead, if you are infantry, but your state has support for most combat and fight against the positions of support service, you might want to get an additional branch.
4. Consider an extra field career: Consider public affairs, information operations, acquisition, instructor or another career field based positions available in your state.
5. Try for holiday promotions: Wherever possible, do not wait around for your department's Office of Promotion of the army. This does can not last forever. Instead, look for vacancies that you are qualified. Try to find offers of 3 to 6 months before being eligible for promotion. This way, you can submit your promotional package as quickly through the ranks.
6. Taking on difficult tasks: Always take tasks hard and be a superstar in every job you have.
7. Going to school: learning new things. Finish your education needs military as soon as possible. Search ATTRS find courses and classes that teach you new skills.
Remember, your career. And it is for you to manage your own career. Stay proactive. Try to find a way to stand out among your peers.
