Discrimination?

If laws are created that increase the punishment of crimes found to be motivated by discrimination? Do you think hate crime legislation helps to reduce or at least discourage acts of racism that lead to violence? Why or why not? This is not a school project of any kind. I am looking for a good answer well thought out. Something you walk away from all the horrible things gawd here. Thank you!

No, I do not think hate crime legislation can be eliminated racism or violence prevention. If the teaching of golden rule can not prevent people from growing racist, how is any law will succeed? If knowledge that the assault and murder are illegal does not stop this guy in Texas who dragged a black man to death behind his truck, how to add years to his sentence something right? In addition, he will get the needle anyway, what more can the law do? What is the use of a law that says, Indeed, you may not think this or that, or something, and if we find OUT that you do then you go to jail for even longer than you HAVE? Who could respect the right example? I had some – uh, interesting reflections on some of the people I met on Yahoo Answers interesting enough to make headline claims and court transcripts convincing. And I am a harmless, if I do say so myself. Which of we are totally innocent in his / her thoughts? I think – I hope – that every generation there will be less racist, if not that because more people realize that there is no benefit in the (economic or otherwise). It's not something that can be legislated into existence. The law is something undeniably great, but it's not the way to fix everything.
