The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is a marvelous feat of engineering. Located on the Strait of Golden Gate in San Francisco Bay, the idea a bridge connecting both sides of the Bay was first discussed in 1872. It was not until the 1930 `s an engineer named Joseph B. Strauss presented the final plans for the bridge to the board of directors of district and construction began.
The Art Deco style The bridge is famous for the idea of husband and wife partnership, Irving and Gertrude Morrow, with their ideas and subtle eye for good taste They have created easy on the eye of the bridge span. In opposition to the U.S. Navy, Morrow and his wife chose a single color for the bridge known as "International Orange" and it became famous throughout the world. As chief engineer Strauss was very security conscious he, with the help Edward Bullard, a local manufacturer of safety equipment, has introduced new security procedures at the ground breaking, which are still followed by a high percentage of construction sites to date. The death rate among men working on deck for the time of construction was second to no showing how important safety precautions where and still are.
