Having trouble getting an interview? Follow these steps and your phone will start ringing off the hook from employers trying to get their hands on you!
Step 1: Decide what type of work you want.
First you must choose your area of expertise. Suppose you're just another recent college graduate with a useless liberal arts degree. Other than working in the travel agency of your uncle, you have no real work experience itself. No special skills. Does this mean you are doomed to pick tomatoes with the rest of Europe Eastern immigrants? Relax. This describes most of the English-speaking workforce in America. You can always get a job in an office doing customer service, or if you have no soul, sales.
Step 2: Determine which company you want to work.
Then you'll have to choose a company. You can find several job sites on the Internet, specially adapted to find a job in your area. Tel Aviv has a tendency to have the most options, with Jerusalem for the standings close. Some sites are analyzed as follows:
Craigslist.org Monster.com
When scanning the ads on these sites, make sure to respond to those who have written about the job requirements. This serves two purposes:
You will know if the job matches your preferences. Take the time to write what is expected of you that the company is serious about hiring someone.
Step 3: Copy and paste is your friend.
Once you have found an advertisement that tickles your fancy, open your e-mail. In the "To" field, type your own e-mail. Yes, you will send this message for you too. I'll explain why in a moment. Then copy and paste the e-mail address on the ad you wish to apply to "BCC" field. BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. In non-nerd terms, that means you'll be sent a copy of this e-mail to any address listed in this area. Do not send the e-mail yet. Repeat the process with each job for which you want to apply. Some things to keep in mind: Be careful not to copy and paste the same email address more than once. Many companies do not often publish ads several at the same time. Separate email addresses in the Bcc by commas. Double-check that the e-mail is full and not miss the.com or something.
Step 4: Write your letter of introduction.
Contrary to what you think, a good cover letter serves three purposes: it stings curiosity of the interviewer about yourself. It makes them see your resume in a more favorable light. It leads the reader to want to meet you in person. Let I give you a personal example. After my military service I returned to America for a short time. I applied for hundreds of companies and went on dozens of interviews. In my letter, I occasionally mentioned my service in the IDF. That do you think happened? My phone rang Off The Hook with employers asking me to come for an interview.
The secret to writing a good letter is unique. Take a moment to think of something that sets you apart dozens of cookie-cutter resumes an employer receives data every day. Is your education? Your ambition? A unique hobby of some sort? Sign your letter and remember to include your phone number in your signature. A whole section should be devoted to writing a letter of introduction successfully so we'll stop there for now.
Step 5: Include your curriculum vitae.
This seems obvious, is not it? Just attach your CV as MS Word document and hit send … WRONG! These days, many employers are afraid of receiving viruses, spyware and hackers or similar to their competitors. So play it safe by including a copy of your resume into the body of the email. If you copy and paste from a word processor like Microsoft Word, make sure there are no errors as sometimes translated content copied with errors HTML. Worst comes to worst, take ten minutes and retype it. Chances are you'll notice one or two areas that need tweaking anyway.
Once you've done this, please send email.
Last few tips:
Apply in the evening or Saturday evening. Most employers to check their email first thing in the morning and you call early to set up an interview. We wake up early the next day or at least answer the cell phone when it rings. If you call that wakes up the answer anyway. Out of politeness, the speaker you ask if they should remember. Say no. You'll look serious position. Plan the interview date, if possible. Follow these steps and soon you have to fight them with a stick!
