What is the history behind the Blue Jays ritual song pack?

We were a few Blue Jays games in Toronto This year the Rogers Center. Before each game, they play a child "backpack" song as a player wearing a pink backpack bullpen between the Blue Jays. What is the story behind it? This looks like a hazing ritual, but I do not think the team would it broadcast on the screen Jumbotron if it was. Ideas? Thank you.

The recruit must wear the pink backpack to the song is back from Dora. It was Carlson for almost all season and last year it was IIRC Brian Wolfe. However, Friday evening, Carlson did not have the pink bag.
