Say what you will about the personal support workers, but at heart, they provide help to those who can not help themselves.

It is not easy. Sometimes, work can be trying. But the personal rewards such as satisfaction and a decent salary are usually sufficient to cheer any PSW.

Although the majority of employment based on "career" to take 2 to 4 years of education, many colleges Ontario, school boards and private colleges offer formal certification PSW in as little as 8-12 months. Courses can also be lying on a part time basis to fit around work schedules. Although they are more rare (and usually housed in colleges major), students can take a full 24 – 36 months to complete a course.

But seriously, when to take a normal pace, the term is over in 8-12 months! It is a relatively small investment of time to join a profession that averages $ 14.50 + per hour.

Think about it. In a year from now you can be certified and entitled to a brand new career.

And as we have seen, the work is rewarding.

How can one go about getting into the industry?

As we have seen, a psw certificate is a must. Despite what some say, where you get a certificate (ie where you go to school) does not really matter that much, as they are recognized by your respective provincial governments. Base your choice of school around the site, the flexibility class time (if you work now) and of course the cost. Cost varies, however, Ontario's colleges are generally more expensive (but they may be funded by OSAP Ontario), followed by private colleges and community centers.

During all these schools are mandatory co-op. On the negative side of the co-op is an unpaid internship. On the positive forces in co-op schools you certify First Aid and CPR, which are both musts for most employers.

At the end of your course you will be certified to operate in many contexts place of employment, including but not limited to: long term care facilities, hospitals, hospices, private households, community centers, rehabilitation clinics, etc.

With continuing demand due to the rapid advancement of age of the population, as well governments of Ontario continued financial support through grants to industry, to become part of the industry is a profitable investment Short-term and long-term future.
