While the media touts that the recession is over, unemployment (and underemployment) is still a major problem, and keep a positive attitude can be a full time job and herself. In January I had the honor of working with the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, Orlando Health, Dress for Success Greater Orlando, AEGIS Law Firm, and WMFE work with ten amazing women who were in need of a little encouragement, empowerment, and finally, a paid job. Participants were given a day of "new beginnings" in the spa at the Ritz-Carlton, advice on interviewing techniques, creating positive perceptions, and empower themselves to achieve their goals.

While working with our participants, it appeared to me as well as the circumstances for each of us can change, it is likely that the main symptoms of the recession may have an effect similar on almost all of us. For this reason, I collected some of my tips to ensure you do everything you can for obtaining or maintaining your reputation as trusted, competent, active company (if you are currently employed or looking for employment).

Tip 1: Keep a positive attitude and demonstrate your way of thinking "before" skills. Whether you are a job interview, talk with your coworkers, or meeting with your management team, your attitude will greatly impact your message. Place Work is changing (lean staffing, adjusted budgets, fewer resources), and your ability to adapt and improvise surely save you bonus points. For example, in an interview situation, the focus on the positive and talk about your ability to overcome obstacles, create and implement process improvements and add value to the company (it is never too late to learn these skills if you do not already possess). If you are currently employed, make sure you leave your employer that you're open to suggestions and actually want to find resources to support business growth and sustainability. It is more important than ever to know that you work for the greater good.

Tip 2: Look the part. As they say, "You teach others how to treat you." Make sure you do everything you can to help others "see" you in the role you want to achieve or maintain. I was amazed at how differently we "seen" by our participants once they had hair, makeup and clothing processing and regained their confidence. I heard several people say that one of our participants, Ratonya, now looked like an executive committee. She even walked a little taller. Therefore it may be equally important Note that when you look and behave professionally, do you remember your own potential. This may be particularly important if you are found in a place where you have been "reduced" in your organization and you do not seem to have the confidence you used to. I recommend getting dressed for work every day, even if you're just running errands. Keeping your identity and self-confidence, especially when you are in transition is essential.

Tip 3: Acting "as if". If you had a failure or simply do not feel that you are at the point where you want to be, it is important to do it yourself "as if" you have a success. When you're asked how you are, your answer is "Great!" The more you see in this role, the more trust in you, and your level confidence will increase.

After the workshop, Shaneek, one of the participants in the process of seeking employment, contacted me and said: "My daughters were so excited to see me after the meeting. They expressed how this was the way I looked before and they would like to see me like this every day … it really made me see what my children were absent, and especially what I missed … so now I woke up and dressed to go to work even if I'm just going to take them to school or go to the store. If I do that, I know I will do the job very soon! "Shortly after, Shaneek sent me a note saying she had found a job! Hmm I wonder if its renewed confidence had something to do with it? After all, as your success depends on who you think. So go ahead, update Success! Enable potential. Results. Making
