Construction began on what would much later become the city of St. Louis, Missouri in February 1764. A group of French men, most merchants, began collecting the Regulation to take advantage of trade coming downstream. Two years later, the settlement was the capital of northern Louisiana, and is governed by the Lieutenant Governor in French. St. Louis has not been submitted to the United States until 1803, as part of the purchase Louisiana. The first lawmakers were elected in 1808, and the United States began to build an arsenal in the city in 1827. The beginning of the era steamboat, part of the famous story in the Missouri region, began in 1817. The steamboat made river trade cities in full expansion in the region, and has caused several rivers along the rapidly increasing population and economic power, one of whom was St. Louis.

The immigrants began coming to St. Louis around 1840, in particular Germany and Ireland. The population has increased by less than twenty thousand in 1840, seventy-five years, ten thousand years later. In 1860, the population had reached more than one hundred and sixty miles. The development of transit has been able to get the growing number of city residents. The first streetcar tracks were laid in 1859. During the Civil War, St. Louis barely saw no combat, and only a few skirmishes visited the area around the city. The state was nominally a slave state owner, even if a large part of the economy came from shipbuilding, and after the Civil War, he continued to build ships for trade and the U.S. Navy.

St. Louis continued to grow and prosper in the 20th century. It completed the first railroad bridge across the Mississippi in 1874, built and tested a number of experimental aircraft important to both WWI and WWII. St. Louis has grown large scale in the early 20th century, mainly due to the rapid increase of industrial production companies. Today St. Louis has revitalized its urban centers and is located in a population of about 350,000 people.
