When looking for jobs, the question most fears for ex-offenders and criminals face is "Have you ever been convicted of a crime? "Often, candidates with criminal records are tempted to lie in hopes of getting an interview. Others simply abandon the hypothesis if they are honest, they have no hope of finding a job. Many convicted felons just want a chance to find a job and become productive members of society, but feel the odds are stacked against them. Several states have enacted laws that can have a huge impact the ability of ex-offenders and criminals to get jobs.

Currently there are four states of legislation the books that prohibit employers from asking about criminal history on job applications. Connecticut, Minnesota, New Mexico and Hawaii have essentially eliminated issues relating to criminal convictions of applications. Critics of the law believe that employers have the right to know as much as possible on who they want to hire. The laws do not prohibit employers from asking once they are face to face with candidates and prevents them from conducting background checks. Ex-offenders and criminals looking for jobs say the issue with the deletion on applications give them a chance to get an interview. Some believe that this will give convicted felons the opportunity to sell. Hope that investigators will focus on candidate skills, charm, and attitude rather than just a criminal record.

Many convicted criminals feel the frustration and despair, finally, as they seek jobs, but this new legislation to give many of them new hope.
