If you are currently unemployed and have recently been offered a job that is paid less then your last job, you have a choice to make. Do you take any paid employment or do you stand on unemployment and continue to take the benefits?

First, nobody should want to stay on unemployment. Unemployment is a great advantage to get through a rough patch, but it should never be used as a crutch for invoked as a long term solution. Accordingly, your decision must be carefully thought out and here are some things you want to consider before making your choice:

 • Type of Job: What kind of job were you offered? If you were offered a job can start with a lower salary, but you can work quickly you, then you might want to take it. If however you been offered a position with no room for growth, then you may want to take a little a little longer.

 • The timing of the offer Directions: As you probably know already, you only have a certain amount of time you can be on unemployment. That means your benefits will eventually be exhausted. If the job offer you receive comes when you have little time for benefits, then you should take it as you never know when the next job will come along. However, if the job comes when your benefits are just starting, you have the luxury of being a bit picky with what you take employment wise. Just make sure you do not wait too long.

 • What is available: It's a common mistake that many are on unemployment. They think they can take a job just like that they had before, but in reality there is not much available in this area more. This may be due to elimination of one throughout the industry that further progress can be made a certain position as outdated. If this is the case with your previous job, then holding to something that probably will not materialize is a sure way to exhaust your unemployment benefits and end up with an egg large goose.

Of course, in the end you must ask yourself how you feel about the whole situation. Many people think that going on unemployment is a source of embarrassment and then take the first job that comes along. However, you can realize that unemployment is actually an advantage working hard every American is entitled to when things get tough.

How do you feel about the situation is obviously going to be different from someone else, but remember that these benefits are there for a reason and if you're not abusing it, you should feel no guilt. Do not crush in low-paying jobs that go nowhere just because of your pride.
