Let there be no doubt who was the star in the Track & Field Games held in 2009 in Washington State Senior. Henry James literally knocked the socks off of her age group of 50-54 years compete in the 400 and 800 meter runs, clocking 55.17 for the 400 and 2:03.55 in the 800.

James electrified audiences with his performance, Smashing Bob Prather's 2:11.11 mark in the 800 and set a new Games record of principal. Last year, James set the record in the 400 with a time 54.83.

James, who lives in Bellingham, is a way later. He apparently was middle distance runner who drew little attention when running for Everett High School. He graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham with a Bachelor arts with a concentration in Computer Science and Business Administration, but did not compete at the university.

He ran again in 2001, thinking he would attempt a marathon, joined a training group where he met and made some friends. One of his friends remarked that he had some speed walking. He stopped training for several years and then started again last year. This year has been his second effort in seniors' competition.

James said he knew he was rounding into form at the right time, as he ran the 800 in 2:16 three weeks ago, followed that up with a 2:07 a week ago before unleashing his 2:03.55 record-setter at the Games this year in Tumwater (WA).

In talking with Henry James, after his performance, he was effusive about the camaraderie he experienced being around older riders who simply can not abandon the sport they love.

Charles Brocato (65-69 years) from Gig Harbor was a beautiful day like He went three gold, turning in some nice moments while winning the 50 (7.62), 100 (13.68) and 200 (29.14).

Melzer is a supporter track Olympia-area Participator and organizer of the first order. It is also a member of the diehards Track & Field Club, which is mainly composed of jumpers and throwers, but also accepts riders.

Debbie Dohrmann (55-59) of Olympia collected 5 gold medals in discus, javelin, weight, Weight Throw and Throw Superweight. Dohrmann was Iron Woman of the day, having been runner-up in the 50 and 100. It is also a member of the club diehards.

If you think that the elderly are an easy target, I suggest trying to beat the aging Harvey Lewellen, he might throw his attacker several feet so the air, then slams the animals to think about the attack.
