Wallingford is a town of about ten thousand inhabitants located in the valley of the Thames, Oxfordshire, England. There is also a civil parish. Located on the west side of the river Thames, it is linked to the city of Crowmarsh Gifford by an impressive medieval stone bridge over the river is about nine hundred feet long.
The city has the feel of a traditional Old English Market Town. It has a large open town square with a war memorial in the center. There is also a town hall of the seventeenth century and the opening of the city center and a small church. Over there are many shops in the region and a number of particularly picturesque streets and quaint. The city also has a number of traditional English pubs.
Despite the small size of the town, Wallingford has three modern churches plus a Roman Catholic Church. The three churches are very regional old and is the home town of fourteen churches. Landmarks in the city: the Museum of Wallington, the old steam train and exchange Corn is now a theater.
Wallingford has been important in historic times, being a major crossing point on the Thames. Interestingly, the Domesday Book of 1085 listed Wallingford is one of the eighteen cities of the kingdom which had a population of over two miles, a considerable number in those days. The castle was built shortly after the conquest and became a place of particular importance during the war calendar.
With an abundance of historical attractions in the Wallingford area and be a city particularly picturesque and pleasant in itself, it is an ideal base to base while exploring the local area. There are frequent bus and motor connections are convenient but there is no more station train operation for regular passengers.
